Wardrobe treasures: Alexandra Grecco.

Hello Lovelies,

Ooh la la, 2011 is peeking around the corner. Unfortunately I will not be able to go out and embrace the last night of the year as I have to work. But for those of you who are going to have a fabulously glam-glam crossing over into the New Year I have a dreamy & inspirational treat: stunning creations by Alexandra Grecco. If you ask me, they are just perfect for every occasion... You could dress each piece up or down.
Ladies put on your golden dancing shoes, turn the volume UP and start dreaming of these magical pieces while you dance! I do!  They are too good to be true!

Let's GO!

Delicious, no? I adore the soft colors she uses and the ultra-feminine designs, hinting playfully at past eras. Not to mention the fabrics...!
Well, maybe someday...

p.s Guess what?! Alexandra Grecco pieces are also available via her  etsy shop! Oh yeah!

A quick pre- new year's eve polish.

As you might have noticed, home.town.treasure has had a little polish up. You know that feeling when you're at home looking around and the sudden urge to rearrange EVERYTHING hits you and there's just no stopping it. Well, this was sort of like that...  I enjoy rearranging A LOT! So I'm also guessing this won't be the last change on my blog. The main reason I changed my old layout was the lack of space. I could only post my pictures in a (for my taste) too small a format. I've changed that now.

Ok, secondly, I've finally managed to get my little etsy shop set up. Etsy is just too wonderful to be true. It's easy for the seller & the buyer. All you need to do is set up a log-in and you’re all set and ready to go. And considering all the wondrous things for sale on etsy, setting up an account seems like a very good idea!
I would love you to stop by my shop and have a look around.

I wish for you that the last few days in 2010 are joyous ones. Snow has turned Zurich into a city with powdered white rooftops and I have just received a new load of films. I'll be off frolicking about in the snow as soon as possible, snapping away as much as I can.

much love,

Music box: pas de deux coda. Or: another ode to ballett.

Hello Lovelies,

here's a video I would like to share with you! I came across it via the lovely blog "stay fancy free"
It combines three things I appreciate greatly in a very urban and yet romantic way: good music, dance and lovely fashion.
The dancers are just so graceful. You might remember this post I did a while back..! Well, I just do LOVE to watch ballett.
This video was made for the brand "opening ceremony" and was danced by students of the "Joffrey Ballet School". The song is "Don't stop" by Owen Palett.

Pas de Deux Coda from Opening Ceremony on Vimeo.

And while we are on the subject of ballett I would like to share another stunning performance from 1969 with you:
The legendary Ballerina Maya Plisetskaya dancing "The Dying Swan".

To me she IS a swan in this performance. Pure beauty and breathtaking grace...

Have a great start into the last week of 2010!

Hang a shining star upon the highest bow.

Oh Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope you & your loved ones have a bright & cheerful time!

And may I take this opportunity to extend a huge and shimmering "THANK YOU" to all of you for your kind support since I started my little blog! It has been magical and blogging has never been more fun!! I must say, I have some little big plans next year and hope to pursue blogging even more seriously. It is so wonderful being able to share one's passion with others. And I have been lucky enough to make some lovely contacts with fellow bloggers. So, all in all, it has been an exciting journey and 2011 holds some even more exciting new adventures at the ready for myself and home.town.treasure!!
So bring it on....

And as for my Christmas… I decided to indulge in the 50’s / 60’s Christmas spirit. I’m listening to all the good ol' Christmas classics and I am getting all dressed up for the occasion! Well, at least a little...

...So may all you days be merry and bright,
& all your christmases be white....

much much love,

p.s heres a mix to help you with that pre-christmas tuning! xx

Music box: Memory House.

Hello Lovelies,

Here's a (very) quick sunday post. I'm currently running up against a school deadline and so I'm finding very little time for blogging. Not funny.
So anyway, as sunday is my music day, I want to share the following song with you. It's by the lovely duo "Memory House". I stumbled across them recentley and adore their dreamy sound.
Makes my sunday evening feel just right...

I hope I'll be back to posting regularly again VERY soon.

Take care,

Photography: white sceneries.

Hello My Lovelies,
So Christmas is just around the corner and, like so many previous years, the snow has come and gone as if to tease us in a most unfair way. It feels as if we're back in autumn. Will we have a white Christmas this year? Oh, we’ll just have to wait & see... I do hope so, so very much.
There's something about the snowy white calm that lays itself over the city like a veil when it snows. I'm sure you know what I mean. But also the glimmering reflections of fairy lights & Christmas decorations on houses & trees powdered with snow. You just can't beat that atmosphere, if you ask me.

Two weeks ago, when Europe was suddenly turned into a winter-wonderland, I embraced the opportunity and took some long walks outside of the city. The countryside & woods are even more beautiful when covered in white. In sceneries like this, I feel at peace with the world.

. . .

And I have one more thing! Let me share my early Christmas present to myself with you:
an oh-so-gorgeous new ROLLEIFLEX, Tessar 2.8!

I’m over the moon to be able to learn all about this camera. I started shooting my first roll of film while on my walks in the snow. It has yet to be finished and developed but I CAN’T WAIT. So, in the meantime, I'm reading all sorts of books & blogs about this beauty.

I hope you had a good start into the week.

much love,

Inspiration: Yokoo.

Hello Hello!
When I came home today, I sat down with a cup of tea and started reading up on all the great blogs I follow on a daily basis (it's become a ritual...can't sleep without my blog-update - oh dear!).
And this is what I found via the lovely ladies from Les Mads
A stunning portrait of a great designer on etsy: Yokoo.

Have a look:

I love it..! Besides the amazing pictures & atmosphere of the video, I had to re-watch it three times to take in her true & wise words about the beauty of creating. What an inspirational personality.
Thank you Yokoo & thank you to Les Mads for highlighting this video. I feel all warm inside after watching it. I hope you might too...
Oh, and you might want to check out Yokoo's Etsy-shop. She creates & makes by hand the greatest knitted scarves & hats – after all, it IS winter.

Photography: Miroslav Tichý.

Hello My Dears,
I recently came across the astonishing work of a very interesting man & photographer: Miroslav Tichý.
To get an idea of how he created his work, you need to read his biography

"After studying at the Academy of Arts in Prague, Miroslav Tichý (born 1926) withdrew to a life in isolation in his hometown of Kyjov, Moravia, Czech Republic. In the late 1950s he quit painting and became a distinctive Diogenes-like figure. From the end of the 1960s he began to take photographs mainly of local women, in part with cameras he made by hand. He later mounted them on hand-made frames, added finishing touches in pencil, and thus moved them from photography in the direction of drawing. The result is works of strikingly unusual formal qualities, which disregard the rules of conventional photography. They constitute a large oeuvre of poetic, dreamlike views of feminine beauty in a small town under the Czechoslovak Communist régime."

I am intrigued by his work...

( Images & text via http://www.tichyocean.com/ )

As I found out on the website there was an exhibition of his work at the Kunsthaus Zürich in 2005! Oh, if only I had been older at the time and as much into photography as I am now. Oh well, I'll just keep my fingers crossed to be able to see an exhibition of his work some day in the future. It would be fantastic to see the real photographs up close with their true colors & textures.

Wardrobe treasures: etsy, je t'aime. part III.

Hello My Lovelies,

Oh dear, it's been a while again since my last post. Well, I'll just blame the snow! Winter has paid Zurich a visit. And it has been the perfect excuse for getting preoccupied with wintery & christmasy things to do: long walks in snowy forests, baking, eating cheese fondue and watching movies all rugged up in the quilt my mum made me & sipping tea.
And when it gets too cold outside, I've been up to (too much) browsing around in the ever-amazing etsy-sphere, taking in all the wonderful things… I simply can’t get  enough of etsy......

So, here's part three of my etsy-must-see list
